Green home living generally refers to eco-friendly and non-toxic lifestyle, which contribute to the preservation of our environment.

Simplify your life

Simplifying our lives is a first step in creating our green home living. Here are a few principles for simple living:

  • Minimize: Use less, but conserve more. You use less toilet paper, printer paper, makeup, toothpaste and hundreds of other things.
  • Maximize: Get the most out of your food, clothing, resources, personal energy, etc.
  • Prioritize: Don’t waste your time, money or energy on the wrong things. Eliminate all unnecessary things.

Air purifying houseplants

Why invest in some electrical air purifiers (which are often expensive) when you can purchase houseplants to filter and clean air in your house naturally and inexpensively? Some of these air purifying houseplants are: Aloe Vera, Baby Rubber Plant, Areca Palm, Boston Fern, Bamboo Palm, Chinese Evergreen and English Ivy. One 10- to 12-inch houseplant is needed for 100 square feet (around 9.29 m2) of home space for effective air purification.

Natural household cleaners

Natural home cleaners are all-natural and non-toxic alternatives to usual chemical cleaners. It’s so ridiculously cheap and easy to make own natural cleaners, such as:

  • White vinegar – prevents the growth of bacteria, better than apple cider vinegar.
  • Baking soda – very good natural abrasive agent.
  • Olive or jojoba oil – polishes oil wood and furniture without harmful additives.
  • Hydrogen peroxide – removes stains completely naturally and easily.
  • Essential oils – as addition to any natural house cleaner.

These natural cleaners act more efficiently if they are mixed together in a spray bottle, of course with a certain amount of water.

Neutralize odors naturally

Forget about the harmful household chemicals for eliminating odors in or around your house. Most of the odor comes from bacteria. Fortunately, there is a healthy and natural alternative for green home living. Use baking soda (good natural deodorizer), white vinegar (which neutralizes bacteria), natural materials (instead of synthetics and plastic), grow household plants, and choose natural fragrances (quality essential oils, incense and others). Use these green techniques by themselves or mix them.

Organic pesticides

There are many natural and sustainable options for household pest control, instead of dangerous (often carcinogenic) chemical pesticides. Through the use of natural pesticides almost all house pests (biting, flying or crawling insects) can be eliminated forever from your home.

Some of these “green” pesticides are: diatomaceous earth (or DE), Neem oil (from seeds of a Neem tree), garlic oil or spray, essential oil (as great repellent) and CedarCide (made from cedar) – effectively repels all kinds of insects. All of these organic pesticides are an integral part of our green home living.
