Solar power plants Ivanpah is located in the Mojave Desert, near to the border between Carlifornia and Nevada, USA. The plant uses solar thermal technology with energy close to 350,000 panels spread over an area of 14.2 km2.
The energy panel is 2m in height and 3m in width. The panels will reflect sunlight and heat the boiler s that are installed on three tower 140m in height. Solar energy is used to generate steam in the boiler and push turbines to generate electricity. Ivanpah plant began producing electricity from December, 2013. Ivanpah is currently the largest solar power plant in the world. Behind it is Solaben plant in Spain, with a capacity of 200 megawatt per year.
With a huge area, this plant can produce 400 megawatt of electricity a year. The project of constructing plant by the Bright Source energy Company, NRG and google Company develop.
US Minister of energy Ernest Moniz said the plant is capable of supplying electricity to 140,000 households in the neighborhood.
US experts said, this project contributes to limit greenhouse gas emission and promote green industry in this country.
However, according to rechearch on environment, operation of the plant is affecting the safety of animals and airborne equipments.
According to the Wall Street Journal, many birds flying around the area of boilers of electricity tower, where the temperature is up to 2600C, can be burned to death or naked hairy. Wildlife species are also threatened.
