The house with the smart windows capable of producing electricity can be launched in the near future after scientists successfully fabricated glass solar panels.
Glass solar panels, an invention of researchers from the University of California in the US, is produced by placing the nano silver plates onto a polymer capable of absorbing near infrared radiation (type light has a longer wavelength than visible light). According to Science Daily, cause of do not absorb white light so the opacity of the new polymer for the human eye is 70%.
Yang Yan – research team leader said: “Our achievements could pave the way to produce glass solar panels. They will become part of the additional portable electronic devices, smart windows have the ability to generate electricity, and many other utilities”. He is a professor of materials science and director of the Centre for Renewable Energy Systems Nano nano California Institute (CNSI).
According to Yang, made from plastic polymer solar cells is the goal of many scientists in the world.
“Our new solar panels are made from plastic material, so they are lightweight and flexible. It is more important that people are able to produce them at low cost, ” he said.
